Teen Suicide Prevention Seminar

Collingwood General & Marine Hospital Foundation

On Thursday April 19th, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. the Collingwood G&M Hospital Foundation’s Education Advisory Committee is hosting the seminar “R U OKAY – Teen suicide Prevention” at the Leisure Time Club in Collingwood. A four member panel will be addressing factors that contribute to teen suicide, offering resources and help for teens, parents and caregivers.   The presentation will include information on treatment including a therapeutic running program.
Panel members include Melissa Carroll, studying for her PHD at McMaster University. Carroll will be discussing factors that contribute to teen suicide such as depression, bullying, sexuality and loneliness.
Gwen Jamieson, a counselor for the Georgian Bay Health Team, will be discussing causes of teen suicide, resources and help for teens and their families.
Dan McGann, an adolescent team social worker at the Credit Valley Hospital will be discussing treatment and counseling as it relates to his “Chasing Down Demons” program – a running group therapy program for teens battling anxiety and depression.
Dr. Mark Quigg, a Collingwood family physician will be addressing the role of the family physician in comprehensive treatment.
A question and answer period will follow the presentation.

Collingwood 2012 Blues Series

Collingwood 2012 Blues Series takes place at the Blue Mountain Foundation for the Arts Centre, 163 Hurontario Street, Collingwood. Performances are held monthly, every 3rd. Thursday 7 to 9pm. Tickets are $15./Concert - $20. at the Door. 2012 Jazz & Blues Society members $13. 2012 Jazz & Blues Society memberships will be available at the door.
